Native Voices Rising

Overview: A collaborative grantmaking initiative led by Common Counsel Foundation and Native Americans in Philanthropy. Since 2012, Native Voices Rising has been committed to supporting Indigenous communities across the United States by providing resources, amplifying voices, and fostering sustainable change.

Total Funding Distributed (Since 2012): Over $12.5 million

Organizations Funded: More than 235 Native-led grassroots organizations

Impact: Grants have empowered initiatives touching the lives of tens of thousands of Native community members across Indian Country

Geographic Scope: United States (Indian Country/Indigenous communities nationwide)

Program Status: Now in its second decade of impactful grantmaking (2024 cycle open)

Focus Areas

Native Voices Rising supports Native-led grassroots organizations addressing critical issues:

  • Environmental & Climate Justice: Supporting Indigenous-led environmental protection and climate action initiatives
  • Health & Healing: Advancing community health and wellness programs
  • Civic & Voter Engagement: Promoting voter registration and civic participation among Native communities
  • Youth & Intergenerational Work: Fostering youth leadership and intergenerational involvement
  • Other critical issues facing Indigenous communities

Eligibility

Applicant Organizations:

  • Native-led grassroots organizations

  • Community-based organizations led by and serving Native/Indigenous communities
  • Grantmaking Model

    Participatory Grantmaking: Donors engage in a participatory grantmaking process

    Youth Involvement: Youth actively participate in grantmaking through Native Youth Grantmakers program (ages 14-24)

    Learning Community: Participants join a learning community dedicated to increasing awareness and visibility of Native communities
