National Home Library Foundation Grant

The National Home Library Foundation Grant supports nonprofits in distributing books and reading materials to libraries and community groups with limited resources. This initiative aims to promote literacy and combat illiteracy among all ages through various programs. Grants are available only to tax-exempt organizations that adhere to non-discrimination policies. Preference is given to requests from the Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia areas, with applications considered on a rolling basis.

NOTE: Grants are accepted on a rolling basis and are considered annually.
NHLF grants are made to assist in the support, promotion and development of literacy and reading-related programs with the goal of combating illiteracy and/or encouraging an interest in reading and literacy among all ages.
Objective
To assist in the distribution of books and other forms of reading materials to libraries and community groups with limited resources or abilities to otherwise procure these materials. To assist in the support, promotion and development of programs with the goal of combating illiteracy and/or encouraging an interest in reading and the literary arts for all ages.To encourage the development of programs relating primarily to literary or cultural topics that utilize various means of communication.

Eligibility

Grants are made only to organizations that are tax exempt under Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code and to those that do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, sexual orientation or gender.

Ineligibility

Grants are not made to individuals, organizations that seek to influence legislation or to intervene in political campaigns, to international organizations or for programs outside the United States.Grants are not made for loans, conferences, scholarships, endowments, construction, reception or operating budgets.
