Nashman Faculty Development Grants: Community-Based Participatory Research Grants

The Nashman Faculty Development Grants at George Washington University support faculty in developing community-engaged scholarship initiatives. These grants focus on courses, research, and creative activities that foster collaboration with local communities to address significant social issues. With funding up to $5,000, projects may include course development, participatory research, and professional development. The initiative emphasizes partnerships with regional organizations, aiming for sustainable community impact through equitable research and engagement.

Honey W. Nashman Center for Civic Engagement and Public Service
The Honey W. Nashman Center supports the diverse ways GW faculty and students contribute to the community, including direct service; community engagement through courses, practica, or research that create a public benefit; policy and governance; philanthropy; social innovation; and community organizing and activism.
The Nashman Faculty Development Grants promote the development of new community engaged scholarship initiatives at GW, including courses, research, creative activity, and assessment of engagement outcomes.
Funds are available to support:

• Development of new community engaged scholarship courses

Faculty engagement in new community engaged scholarship activities with a community partner, including community-based participatory research, creative activities or other scholarly work
Research/assessment on the outcomes of community engaged scholarship
Individual or group professional development in community engaged scholarship
Strategic planning for community engaged academic departments
Applications will be accepted from GW faculty who are regular full-time faculty, or part-time faculty with a demonstrated long-term commitment to GW. Initiatives in partnership with Washington, DC region organizations/partners will receive preference.

Purpose: Advance research on significant social issues in collaboration with local residents that will provide potential solutions and contribute to long-term, sustainable change in the community. Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) is a collaborative approach to research that involves an equitable relationship between residents, community organizations and university researchers that is reflected in all levels of project design and dissemination.
Funding guidelines: Generally, up to $5,000.
