Overview

Mission The central purpose and role of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Scholarship Foundation Program established by the Muscogee (Creek) National Council is to promote self-sufficiency, proactive community participation, self-reliance, self-determination, tribal sovereignty, and a sustainable future for Muscogee (Creek) Nation citizens through traditional gift-giving and support of academic scholarship, community initiatives, and research that benefit the growth and prosperity of Muscogee (Creek) Nation communities. The Muscogee (Creek) Nation Scholarship Foundation Program is a Muscogee (Creek) Nation tribal government non-profit program qualified under Section 7871(a) of the Internal Revenue Service Code. This status is only afforded to federally recognized tribes. All contributions to the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Scholarship Foundation Program are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Fighting Cancer for Kat Scholarship Description Katherine “Kat” Tecumseh was born to Isreal & Wisey (Scott) Tecumseh on December 20, 1955. “Kat” attended Sequoyah High School from 1970 through 1974 and thereafter received the GED. “Kat” received the Applied Science Diploma from OSU-Okmulgee on December 10, 1996. “Kat” worked for the Muscogee (Creek) Nation as an Intake Specialist in the Employment & Training Department. As a dedicated employee, “Kat” wanted “to ensure citizens of Muscogee (Creek) Nation and other tribes are directed to proper channels to get their needs met. It is my intention as a Muscogee (Creek) Nation citizen is to help others become self-sufficient.” “Kat” was a member of the Concharty United Indian Methodist Church and participated in Northeast Region activities of the Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference. Purpose This scholarship is for a student that is a cancer survivor; has a parent that has been diagnosed with cancer or in remission or who has passed from this life due to cancer. The purpose of this scholarship is to financially assist Muscogee (Creek) Nation students that might not have the financial means to further their education. This scholarship award can be utilized to pay for the required cost of tuition, fees, books, tools, supplies, testing or examination fees, transportation, or other incidental required cost related to the cost of the post-secondary education institution. Submit a personal statement indicating how cancer has affected the applicant’s life. Have an overall grade point average of 2.5 or better. Must be full-time student currently attending an institution of higher education or enrolled as a first-time entering student.Must demonstrate financial need. Must provide a photograph and agree to authorize the Scholarship Foundation Program to publicize the scholarship award if selected. Students may submit one application per semester.Required Documents -In order to be considered for a scholarship please submit the following:Completed Scholarship Application Form Muscogee (Creek) Nation Citizenship ID Card Personal essay Educational records: Official high school transcript or GED certificate, or most recent college transcript.
