Movement Grants Program - Individuals

The Movement Grants Program by Animal Charity Evaluators offers financial support to initiatives enhancing global animal advocacy. It prioritizes projects that benefit large numbers of farmed or wild animals, particularly in underfunded regions. With over 259 grants awarded across 57 countries, the program seeks innovative and impactful strategies to improve animal welfare. Eligible applicants include individuals and organizations, focusing on systemic changes in animal advocacy, operational support, and collaboration with fiscal sponsors when necessary.

The Movement Grants program is dedicated to building and strengthening the global animal advocacy movement through grants. We prioritize supporting initiatives that use novel interventions, target large numbers of animals, and operate in regions that are underrepresented in animal advocacy. By supporting a wide variety of organizations, we also provide new evidence about what interventions work best to help animals.
The program presents an opportunity for emerging or smaller initiatives to receive financial support, playing a critical role in expanding animal advocacy to more regions and species. To date, we have awarded 259 grants to groups in 57 countries, totaling $6 million in disbursed grants.
Our Movement Grants program is designed to build and strengthen the global animal advocacy movement by supporting impactful and innovative projects around the world. If you’re wondering whether your project is a good match, consider the following:

• Do you work to help farmed animals or wild animals, especially small-bodied ones?
• Are you trying to kickstart the animal advocacy movement in your region?
• Does your project target large numbers of animals or test novel approaches to helping animals?
• Does your work support many individuals in the movement?

Eligibility

We are able to fund:
Individuals working in the United States.Please note that a grant received by an individual person may be considered taxable income. Individuals working outside the U.S. are asked to collaborate with a fiscal sponsor or reach out to Movement Grants Manager to discuss options for funding. We provide funding for both general operational support and specific projects, including salaries. Our aim is to offer as unrestricted funding as possible, but we may restrict funding if an organization works in areas outside the scope of Movement Grants.

Ineligibility

We are less likely to fund:

• Projects in regions that already receive a large amount of funding relative to the number of animals farmed there, such as North America and Europe.
• Projects focusing on animals farmed in smaller numbers.We will not fund projects focused on:
• Companion animals, animals used in labs, or animals in entertainment.
• Vegan food festivals.helping animalsRescuing and rehabilitating wild animals.

Species conservation or projects that prioritize ecosystems over the wellbeing of individual animals. Our views on this can be found on our “How We Prioritize Causes” page.
Direct care for animals.We are not able to fund groups or projects that:

• Encourage any form of animal exploitation.
• Are located in countries with nationwide sanctions by the U.S.

Conflict with our commitment to representation, equity, and inclusion.Have leadership that has financially supported ACE in the past three years.Are currently a Recommended Charity, as these receive funding via our Recommended Charity Fund)
Directly or indirectly participate or intervene in any political campaign on behalf of, or in opposition to, any candidate for elective public office.
