Geographic Scope: University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) and University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO)

Overview:
UNeMed awards $10,000 in unrestricted research funds to the inventor or group of inventors who submit the most promising invention. The award was introduced in 2008 to promote the disclosure of new inventions to UNeMed.

Eligibility:

• All UNMC faculty, students, and staff are eligible
• UNO researchers, faculty, and staff may also be eligible

Focus Areas:
All invention types are considered, with emphasis on:

• Inventions with potential benefits to the public good
• Inventions with strong patent potential
• Inventions with market potential

What They Fund:

• Unrestricted research funds for promising new inventions

Award Announcement:
The award is announced and presented at the Innovation Awards ceremony in October

• Guangshun Wang, PhD, assistant professor in the Eppley Institute (2008)

How to Apply

1. Submit a New Invention Notification (NIN) Form
   • Complete the NIN form available on the UNeMed website
   • Submit the fully completed form to UNeMed
2. Evaluation Process
   • All fully completed NIns submitted to UNeMed will be evaluated and considered
   • UNeMed staff will review submissions based on:
   • Potential benefits to the public good
   • Patent potential
   • Market potential
3. Award Announcement
   • The award is announced and presented at the Innovation Awards ceremony (typically in October)

Required Materials:

• Completed New Invention Notification (NIN) form

Submission Timeline:

• Applications are accepted on a rolling basis
• Award announcement: October (annual Innovation Awards ceremony)
