Overview

Moose International Disaster Relief Fund (MDRF)

Overview: Emergency financial assistance for Moose lodges and chapters impacted by natural disasters, helping with property damage and loss of business due to temporary closure.

Geographic Scope: Fraternity-wide (US and Canada for officially declared disasters)

Award Limit: Up to $10,000 per incident

Eligible Disasters: Natural disasters including but not limited to:

  • Tornadoes

  • Hurricanes

  • Earthquakes

  • Floods

  • Wildfires
  • Disaster Declaration Requirement: Must receive official disaster declaration by either state/province or President/Prime Minister

    Eligible Uses of Funds:

  • Restore property

  • Pay urgent expenses

  • Reimburse deductibles

  • Fund other items approved by MDRF Committee due to loss of business during closure
  • Eligibility Requirements: Fraternal units must meet ALL of the following:
    1. Lodge or Chapter must be in good standing with its Association and Moose International
    2. Lodge must be covered by an active insurance policy and current with property and liability payments
    3. Lodge or Chapter must have incurred loss or damage due solely to natural disaster (NOT from gradual deterioration, decay, pollution, erosion, or unrelated causes)
    4. Lodge or Chapter must submit complete MDRF application

    Application Deadline: 60 days from date of disaster (Committee may consider applications filed after 60 days in unique cases; for ongoing disasters like wildfires, filing should occur within 60 days after damage is assessable)

  • Director General

  • Chief Financial Officer

  • General Counsel

  • Chief Marketing Officer

  • Director of Membership
  • Important Notes:

  • Relief funds positioned as grants (no repayment required)

  • Insurance coverage and other local/regional relief fund distributions considered before MDRF funds granted

  • No individual member requests accepted

  • Individual, Fraternal Unit, or Association contributions to MDRF not accepted (but specific incident contributions can be made directly to affected FRU)

  • How to Apply

    Application Process

    Timeline: Submit within 60 days of disaster occurrence

    Required Documentation:
    1. Completed MDRF application form (in its entirety)
    2. Written description of:
    - How disaster impacted the Lodge or Chapter
    - What expenses the requested funds will be used for
    3. Insurance information:
    - Insurance company name and address
    - Deductible amount
    4. Insurance company written assessment and repair estimates (if available)
    5. Digital photos documenting damage for which assistance is requested
    6. Copies of specific bills or expenses for reimbursement (if available)
    7. Information on where to forward approved relief funds
    8. Territory Manager recommendation for assistance
    9. Signatures of:
    - Lodge or Chapter Administrator or Recorder
    - One other officer of the Lodge or Chapter
