Monica Thompson Memorial Benevolent Fund

Overview: The Fund was created in 2021 to honor Monica Gurrola Thompson's 21 years of outstanding service and contributions to CalCPA and the profession. It provides members, staff, and friends of CalCPA with financial assistance during temporary periods of crisis or hardship.

Geographic Scope: California (CalCPA members and affiliates)

Types of Assistance Provided:

  • Temporary monthly living or office expenses

  • One-time emergency grants

  • Temporary monthly medical, mental health, and prescription expense payments that exceed insurance coverage

  • Temporary Medicare or other health insurance premiums

  • Most medically necessary services for dependent children (under age 21)

  • Other assistance as deemed appropriate by the Benevolent Fund Committee
    • Eligibility Requirements

    • Current CalCPA members
    • Surviving spouse or business partner of a member at time of their death
    • Dependent children (under age 21) of a member
    • Current CalCPA employees
    • Other friends of CalCPA, as deemed appropriate by the Committee
    • Must exhibit evidence of financial need per application and supporting documentation

    1. Complete the Application Form
    - Complete sections 1-16 in a legible manner
    - Application is available as a fillable PDF (recommended method)
    - Page 6 contains a Submission Checklist
    - Section 17: Sign authorization of information
    - Section 18: For someone other than applicant filling out application
    - Section 19: Additional writing space if needed

    2. Gather Required Documentation
    - Provide all required documentation and verification items necessary to complete application
