Mini Grants for Teachers

Geographic Scope: Wilkes County, North Carolina

Eligible Applicants: Teachers in Wilkes County Schools

Award Amount: Up to $2,000 per grant; approximately 30-32 grants awarded annually, totaling around $36,000-$40,000

Purpose: Grants are designed to provide funds to implement creative and innovative instructional programs in classrooms for which federal, state, or local funds are not available.

Eligibility: Open to all Wilkes County Schools teachers across elementary, middle, and high schools

Selection Criteria - Proposals are reviewed anonymously and ranked based on:

  • Clarity of goals

  • Creativity

  • Benefit to and involvement of students

  • Efficient use of foundation funds

  • Adaptability of projects for use by other teachers
  • Program History: Founded in 1985, the WEF has awarded 938+ grants to Wilkes County School teachers totaling $578,962.17 over 40 years

    Funding Sources: Individual and corporate contributions and the annual Hugh Martin Memorial Golf Tournament
