Michigan Workforce Training Center Equipment (TEC) Grant Program

Geographic Scope: Statewide Michigan program. Lakeshore Advantage administers for Allegan and Ottawa counties.

Focus Areas:

• Health care training equipment
• Automation and Industry 4.0 training equipment
• Smart manufacturing technologies
• Workforce development and credentials
• Occupational certifications

Eligible Applicants:

• Qualified training providers
• Community colleges
• Technical education centers
• Intermediate school districts
• Organizations providing workforce training for qualified employers and individuals

Purpose: Support training providers in acquiring equipment to improve or expand area training programs and help workers achieve credentials and skills needed for today's marketplace.

Example Awards (2022):

• Allegan County Area Technical Education Center: $30,400 (Patient Care Tech and EKG certifications)
• Grand Rapids Community College – Lakeshore Campus: $49,875 (Advanced automation training, SACA and FANUC certifications)
• Thompson M-TEC/Ottawa Area ISD: $49,875 (FANUC/Miller Robotic Weld Cell training)

Application Process

Step 1: Determine Eligibility

• Verify your organization is a qualified training provider
• Confirm alignment with workforce needs and employer demand in your region
• Identify specific equipment needs for training programs

Step 2: Develop Grant Proposal

• Identify equipment to be purchased
• Explain how equipment will improve or expand training programs
• Describe certifications and credentials students will earn
• Outline workforce demand and regional employer needs
• Detail how equipment aligns with Industry 4.0 or other priority sectors

Step 3: Submit Application

• Contact Lakeshore Advantage for application instructions
• Submit through regional economic development administrator
• Include equipment specifications, costs, and implementation timeline
