Program Name: Michael J. Day AFSCAN Scholarship (formerly Colin F. Burrows International African Small Companion Animal Network (AFSCAN) Scholarship)
Annual international veterinary scholarship recognizing and fostering international veterinary leaders, particularly those working to advance companion animal veterinary care in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Background
- Founded in 1995 as the NAVC International Scholarship Program
- Renamed in 2020 to honor Emeritus Professor Michael J. Day, an internationally recognized leader in animal medicine and pioneering figure in advancing clinical care for companion animals in Sub-Saharan Africa
- NAVC partnered with the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) and WSAVA Foundation in 2015 to enhance candidate selection
- Over 70 scholarships awarded since 1995
