Michael F. Peterson Youth Leadership Conference

Funder: Valley Electric Association, Inc. (Sponsored in partnership with Utah Rural Electric Association)

Geographic Scope: Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming (open to high school juniors from rural communities)

Eligibility:

  • Must be a high school junior

  • Full week attendance (Sunday-Friday) is mandatory

  • Must be able to attend July 5-10, 2026 in Ephraim, UT
  • Program Details:

  • Duration: One week (July 5-10, 2026)

  • Location: Ephraim, UT

  • Cost: Free; Valley Electric sponsors attendance

  • Transportation: Provided from VEA's main campus (800 E Highway 372, Pahrump, NV 89048) on July 5th, returning July 10th. Parents responsible for drop-off and pick-up at VEA campus.
  • Activities Include:

  • Leadership skills development through hands-on activities

  • Presentations from influential speakers

  • Rope courses

  • Talent show

  • Team sports

  • Dance

  • Networking with hundreds of students from rural communities
  • Selection Process:

  • Based on application, essay/presentation/video submission

  • Notification of selection by April 15, 2026

  • How to Apply

    Application Process

    Required Materials:
    1. Completed application form with personal information
    2. Letter of reference from an adult who is not a parent (can also be used for future scholarship applications)
    3. Creative submission (choose one format):
    - Essay: Maximum 500 words
    - Presentation: Maximum 20 slides
    - Video: Maximum 2 minutes
    4. Response to prompt: "Imagine you've been elected President of the United States. What three things would you like to accomplish in your term of office and why?"

    - Willingness to participate in optional talent show and talent description
