Summary

The MI Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), managed by the Michigan DNR, supports the development of public outdoor recreation facilities. With grants ranging from $30,000 to $500,000, the program aims to enhance trails, community recreation, and accessibility while promoting local investment in recreation resources. This reimbursement program requires a 50% local match, ensuring communities actively participate in funding their projects. The initiative aligns with Michigan's State Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP).

Overview

NOTE:  Recreation plans and plan amendments must be submitted by the Pre proposal deadline. The Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) is a federal program administered in Michigan by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) on behalf of the National Park Service (NPS). In Michigan, the DNR uses funding from the LWCF program to develop public outdoor recreation facilities and to provide matching grants to local governments for the development of public outdoor recreation areas and facilities. The program is intended to create and maintain a nationwide legacy of high-quality recreation areas and facilities and to stimulate non-federal investments in the protection and maintenance of recreation resources across the United States. The focus of the program will be on meeting the priorities of the State Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP), specifically trails, community recreation, green technology, coordination and communication, and universal access. The minimum grant amount is $30,000 ($60,000 total project cost) and the maximum grant amount is $500,000 ($1,000,000 total project cost). The local community must provide a portion of the total project cost; this is the local match. The match percentage must be exactly 50 percent. This is a reimbursement program. All grants are paid as reimbursement for actual expenses (i.e. the community pays for the work and is then reimbursed at 50 percent of the cost up to the grant amount).
