Summary
The Martha Holden Jennings Foundation provides grants to recognize and support outstanding PK-12 teachers in Ohio's public schools. Mission and Goals The mission of the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation is twofold: to foster the development of individual young people to the maximum possible extent in Ohio’s secular primary and secondary schools, andto provide a means for greater accomplishment on the part of Ohio’s teachers by encouraging creativity in teaching and bringing greater recognition to the teaching profession. Characteristics for a Deep Learning project: The project DIRECTLY involves work with public school studentsStudents acquire new content or skills learned through multiple steps with multiple levels of analysis or processing and apply in ways that change thinking or behaviorsThere are clear and developmentally appropriate learning targets for students The experience involves various cycles of wondering, thinking, acting, assessing, considering varied perspectives, and iterating The result/output is clear about how students will demonstrate whether learning targets have been met and consider the next steps The work thoughtfully contributes to students experiencing these conditions Grants to Educators Grants-to-Educators support the Foundation’s basic objective of recognizing and encouraging outstanding classroom teachers in Ohio’s PK-12 public schools. Grants are available to teachers and administrators and are typically for classroom or school-wide projects. Focus Areas Applicants will need to identify which of the following Deep Learning aspects are central to your project: Developing students’ skills in critical reading, writing, research, and/or mathematics Developing students’ problem-solving skills Fostering students’ self-directed learning Engaging students to think as scientists, social scientists, and/or artists Engaging students in interdisciplinary learning Engaging students in meaningful problem or project-based learning Funding The maximum grant size is $3,000.Eligibility

The Foundation will generally not fund:capital improvements,indirect costs,overhead,travel expenses,endowment campaigns,school bus transportation,field trips/admission fees,facility fees,storage units,incentives,curriculum writing,time for participating in staff development,school supplies,refreshments,awards or t-shirts.The Foundation does not consider projects, where the chief purpose is to obtain technology, equipment, books, materials, etc.Focus Areas & Funding Uses
