Program Overview

The Memorial Tree & Bench Program allows individuals and organizations to dedicate memorial trees or benches in city parks or on city trails as a tribute to a loved one or friend, or to commemorate a special occasion. All donations include installation and perpetual maintenance by city staff.

    Pricing

  • 6-foot metal bench: $1,950
  • 1.2-2 inch caliper tree: $495

    Included Services

  • Installation by city staff
  • Perpetual maintenance by city staff
  • Option for family and friends to participate in tree planting process
  • City staff guidance on tree species selection based on location, habitat, and memorial considerations
  • City staff assistance in selecting appropriate bench options based on location and maintenance requirements

    Plaque Recognition Policy

  • The City permits installation of donated plaques with park benches (pending approval)
  • Material requirements: Must be corrosive-resistant metal, polycarbonate, or similar durable material
  • Color requirements: Must harmonize with site furnishing
  • Size limit: Exposed surface must not exceed 18 square inches (3" x 6")
  • Approval process: Parks Manager or designee must approve plaque material, size, and wording before donor orders the plaque
  • Plaques exceeding size limits will not be installed on site

  • Cemeteries
  • City trails

Individuals and organizations work with city staff to select the right location. Note: Some locations may not be available due to maximum memorial capacity.

How to Apply

Application Process

1. Contact the foundation to express interest in establishing a memorial donation
2. Work with City staff to:
- Determine how you would like to establish your memorial donation within the park estate
- Select the right location for a bench, tree, or combination of both
- Select an appropriate tree species (for trees) based on location, habitat, and memorial considerations
- Determine which bench options are available based on location and maintenance requirements
3. For plaques: Submit plaque design for approval by Parks Manager or designee before ordering
- Confirm material, color, size, and wording meet donation plaque policy requirements
4. Submit payment to complete donation
5. City staff handles planting, installation, and ongoing maintenance
