Mark Dreibelbis Scholarship

Overview: The Mark Dreibelbis Scholarship provides scholarship support to outstanding student-athletes who have displayed exceptional leadership. This is a newly established scholarship, with inaugural recipients announced in 2022.

Award Structure:

  • Multiple scholarships awarded annually to exemplary student-athletes

  • Each recipient receives $2,500 scholarship award and a commemorative plaque

  • Award given to multiple winners per year (2022 inaugural class had 5 recipients)

    • Geographic Scope: North Carolina NCHSAA member high schools

    Eligibility:

  • High school seniors attending NCHSAA member schools

  • Demonstrate exceptional leadership qualities

  • Show athletic achievement and academic excellence

  • Evidence of community service and involvement

    • About Mark Dreibelbis:
    Mark Dreibelbis is a retired Associate Commissioner of the NCHSAA with a distinguished career spanning over 40 years in education and athletics. He was:

  • Rules clinician for football, basketball, wrestling, softball, soccer, volleyball, lacrosse, and baseball

  • Supervisor of officials and director of Student Services, Leadership and Sportsmanship programs

  • National Certification Trainer for the NFHS Coach Education curriculum

  • Spearheaded efforts for diversity, equity, and inclusion at the NCHSAA

  • Assigned the first female player in NCHSAA boys' basketball and football state championship games

  • Assigned the first all-female crews for NCHSAA basketball, soccer and volleyball state championship games

  • Named NFHS Coach Educator of the Year in 2014

  • Recipient of NFHS State Association Citation in 2021 and Golden Whistle Award in 2018
