Marilyn Nissen Nursing Scholarship

Purpose: Honors long-time oncology nurse Marilyn Nissen, R.N., who performed 30 years of service at BCHC. The scholarship assists students pursuing nursing degrees and honors Marilyn's high value on education.

Award Amounts:

  • $500 - For students who have been accepted to an accredited nursing program

  • $250 - For students who intend to enroll in a nursing program

    • Number of Awards: Two scholarships awarded annually

    Eligibility:

  • High school seniors who are residents of the eligible communities

  • Must have been accepted to or have intent to apply to an accredited nursing program

  • Must be pursuing a degree in nursing

    Application Requirements

    Written Materials:
    1. Essay (250-400 words) addressing:
    - Why student chose nursing career
    - What this scholarship means to them
    - Relevant work experience
    - Personal and professional goals as a nurse

    2. Academic Transcript:
    - Seven semester high school transcript showing academic standing to date

    3. References:
    - Two personal references from faculty who have taught student within past two years
    - References must complete the "Reference of Support" form available on BCHC website
    - Letter of recommendation from each reference discussing:
    - Applicant's motivation
    - Completion of assignments
    - Academic abilities
    - Personal traits related to communication and leadership

    Submission:

  • Full application and necessary forms available on BCHC website

  • Scholarships presented by BCHC Scholarship Committee member at high school honors ceremony or graduation
