Maria Concillo Memorial Scholarship Fund

A scholarship fund established by Local Union 926 of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters to award scholarships to dependent children of eligible union members.

Award Details:

• Number of Awards: 3 scholarships annually
• Award Amount: $5,000 per year for a maximum of 4 years
• Total Potential: Up to $20,000 per recipient over four years
• Distribution: Awards are sent directly to the college/institution and credited to the winner's account
• Eligible Expenses: Tuition, room and board (college-operated accommodations), documented matriculation fees, and other usual and similar fees

Eligibility Requirements:

• Applicant must be a dependent child of an eligible Local Union 926 member (dependent, natural, or legally adopted)
• Parent/Member Requirements:
  • Must be a full active member paying full dues (excludes NYC employees, retirees, early retirees, honorary members, and disabled members)
  • Must be in good standing with both Local Union 926 and NYC District Council for 12 consecutive months immediately preceding application submission
  • Must have been a member of Local 926 for 36 consecutive months immediately preceding application submission
  • Deceased members' children are eligible if member met requirements at time of death and child was at least 12 years old
• Applicant Requirements:
  • Must be a high school senior graduating in June from a public, private, or parochial school
  • Must maintain a C (2.0) or better grade point average throughout entire senior year of high school
  • Must be planning to attend a 2-year or 4-year college/university, nursing school, or technical school in the United States
  • Must be planning to attend on a full-time basis directly from high school
  • Must have been or be subsequently admitted to the institution
• Continuation Requirements: Must maintain a 2.5 GPA and remain a full-time student to continue receiving awards in subsequent years

Application Period: February 11 - April 3 (annually)

Review Process:

• Local Union 926 verifies union membership eligibility
• All applications reviewed by independent professional educators: International Scholarship & Tuition Services Incorporated
• Winners announced in May of the application year
• Local Union 926 does not exercise choice among applicants; review committee makes final decisions

Application Process

Step 1: Request Application (After February 11th)

• Email info@local926.org to request the online application link
• Include in your email:
  • Your name
  • Your address
  • Your UBC card number
  • Name and address of the applicant
  • Applicant's relationship to the member

Step 2: Union Verification

• Upon receipt of request information, Local Union 926 will verify your union membership
• The Local will then send you the online Scholarship Fund Application link and contest Rules and Instructions

Step 3: Complete and Submit Application

• Applications must be submitted by April 3rd annually

Required Materials (must be received between February 11 - April 3):

1. Completed Application Form - to be completed by applicant with membership verification portion completed by Local Union 926
2. Proof of Relationship - such as birth certificate or adoption papers
3. Official School Transcript - to be submitted with online application by school official
4. Proof of College Registration/Enrollment - verification of admission to a 2 or 4-year college/university or other qualifying school

• Committee makes final decision on winners
• Winners notified in May
