Long-term International Fellowship Grant

The Long-term International Fellowship (LIFe) offers vital support to early-career oncologists in low- to middle-income countries (LMICs), enabling them to enhance their training through mentorship in the U.S., Canada, or Europe. Recipients receive $60,000 for 12 to 18 months, facilitating travel to the ASCO Annual Meeting. This fellowship, which cannot extend existing programs, promotes improved cancer care in their home countries, with two fellowships available for the most deserving applicants.

The Long-term International Fellowship (LIFe) provides early-career oncologists in low- to middle-income countries (LMICs) the support and resources needed to advance their training by deepening their relationship with a mentor at a host institution in the United States, Canada, or Europe. During the one-year fellowship, the recipients receive valuable training and experience, which they use to effect change in cancer care in their home country.
Applicants must have a pre-existing relationship with a mentor (must be an ASCO member) but must not already be at the mentor’s institution at the time of application submission. This Fellowship cannot be used to extend an existing fellowship or program of work.
The Fellowship total is $60,000 USD for the entire duration (12 months or 18 months) and will be paid to the fellowship recipient’s home institution in two equal installments. The applicant may budget for travel to attend the Grants and Awards Ceremony at the ASCO Annual Meeting that is held during the Fellowship award term or the following year. Any costs in excess of $60,000 are the responsibility of the home institution. For 2026, two Fellowships are available which will be awarded to the most meritorious applications evaluated for this competition. Additional Fellowships may be awarded as funding becomes available.
