Kraken Unity Fund - Heroes of the Deep
Overview: The Kraken Unity Fund was created by the Seattle Kraken, One Roof Foundation, and funding from the ownership group led by David Bonderman and Samantha Holloway. The program honors inspiring individuals doing outstanding work to transform lives, enable resiliency, and uplift and unite the community across the Pacific Northwest.
Program Structure: One Hero of the Deep is selected for each Seattle Kraken home game during the regular season. Each Hero receives recognition in-game and works with One Roof Foundation to select a nonprofit recipient of a $32,000 donation made in their honor.
- Nominees must reside within: Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, or Alaska
- Recipient organizations must be headquartered within: Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, or Alaska
Geographic Scope
- Must be at least 13 years old
- Must reside within WA, OR, ID, MT, or AK
- Must be able to be present on honoree game day (under 18 must have parent/guardian present)
- Must complete a publicity release as a condition of selection
Hero of the Deep Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization or fiscally sponsored by a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
- Must be headquartered within WA, OR, ID, MT, or AK
- Political, religious, advocacy, or special interest groups will not be considered
- Must be in good financial standing
- Must be willing to be part of story/vignette for publication/promotion
- Must agree to submit a short report on fund usage within one year of receiving grant
- Must have a mission/vision aligned with One Roof Foundation values
Grant Recipient Organization Eligibility Criteria
- Advancing inclusion, diversity, and racial equity
- Addressing homelessness (families, youth, and/or adult)
- Advancing hunger relief efforts
- Empowering youth, particularly through access to hockey and other forms of play
- Uplifting communities, particularly those most negatively impacted by climate change and disasters
Organizational Mission Alignment
One Roof Foundation values:- Has a particularly inspiring story
- Demonstrates courage in the face of adversity
- Has a track record of uplifting and uniting the community
- Serves the community in alignment with One Roof Foundation and Starbucks shared values (as listed above)
- Some heroes may be recognized during hockey theme nights (e.g., Hockey Fights Cancer, Military Appreciation)
Selection Factors
Selection considers the extent to which the nominee:- Must be at least 13 years old
- Must complete all required fields on nomination form
- May only nominate one Hero of the Deep per season
- If multiple nominations submitted by same nominator, only first submission considered
Nominator Eligibility
- Must be completed online via nomination form only
- Will not consider requests via phone, email, mail, fax, or social media direct messaging
- Become property of One Roof Foundation/Seattle Kraken and will not be returned
- May be edited at sole discretion of One Roof Foundation/Seattle Kraken for use in publications/promotions
- If multiple nominations received for same nominee, One Roof Foundation/Seattle Kraken may designate one nomination/nominator

How to Nominate
1. Complete the online nomination form at onerooffoundation.org
2. All nominations must be submitted online - phone, email, mail, fax, or social media submissions will not be considered
3. Nominator must be at least 13 years old and complete all required fields
4. Each nominator may submit only one nomination per season
5. If your nominee is selected, you and the nominee will be notified directly by One Roof Foundation using the contact information provided
6. If your nominee is selected, you may be required to complete a publicity release
- Must be available to attend honoree game day
- Must complete a publicity release
- Work with One Roof Foundation to select the nonprofit recipient organization
- Participate in in-game recognition
Nominee Responsibilities if Selected
- Submit a short report on how funds were used within one year of receiving the grant
- Participate in story/vignette for publication or promotion
- Maintain 501(c)(3) status or fiscal sponsorship
- Remain in good financial standing
Grant Recipient Organization Responsibilities
- Nominations are accepted on a rolling basis
- Due to large volume of nominations, only those selected will be notified
- Each individual can only be selected once as a Hero of the Deep
- One recipient selected per Kraken home game in the regular season
