Overview

KC Water Services Fund

Geographic Scope: Kansas City, Missouri area

Purpose: Emergency water utility assistance for low-income households

Eligibility:

  • Income below 180% federal poverty income guidelines

  • Must be the account holder (water bill in applicant's name) or authorized user

  • Account must be active (not disconnected or charged off)

  • Can use fund up to 2 times per rolling calendar year

  • Maximum $500 per rolling calendar year
  • Who Is NOT Eligible:

  • Customers over 185% income limit threshold

  • Customers who have already reached maximum fund usage per year

  • Non-account holders

  • Customers with disconnected or charged off accounts

  • Old or inactive accounts
  • How It Works:
    Customers below 180% federal poverty income guidelines can apply for assistance. Funds are processed through local social service agencies or utility assistance events.

    Bishop Sullivan Center, Community Action Agency, Catholic Charities, Christ The King Church, Community Assistance Council, CU Mission Community Assistance, Guadalupe Center INC, Heart of America Indian Center, Hope Network of Raytown, Jewish Family Services, Love INC of Clay County, Lutheran Urban Mission Agency, Metro Lutheran Ministry, NLIC Food Pantry, Northland Assistance Center, Operation Breakthrough, Raytown Emergency Assistance, Reconciliation Services, Redemptorist, Salvation Army (multiple locations), St Elizabeth's Church, St Peter's Catholic Church, St Therese Catholic Church, True Light Family Resource Center, LINC

    Income will be verified by the agency. Applicants do not need to currently have income to use the fund. Federal Income Poverty Guidelines are used for verification.

  • Can submit as PRE-APPLICATION online

  • Note: Online submission is pre-application only; agencies must process final application
  • Option 2: In-Person Application

  • Apply directly with a local social service agency in your area

  • Contact United Way (816-474-5112 or www.211kc.org) to find nearest agency if unfamiliar

  • Scheduling an appointment or contacting agency before arrival is highly suggested
  • Alternative: Utility Assistance Events

  • Attend utility assistance events hosted by Evergy and KC Water Department

  • Contact Evergy Connect Center (816-414-4500) or KC Water Department (816-513-1313) for event information

  • Follow KC Water Department and Evergy social media for announcements
  • Important Notes:

  • UNITED WAY, MAAC, MAAC LIHEAP, or KCMO Water Department do NOT process these applications

  • Only designated agencies can process KC Water Services Fund applications

  • Applicants must contact a local agency or attend an event; online application alone does not complete the process
