Funding Period: July through June (annual cycle)

Eligibility Requirements

Non-profit organizations must demonstrate:

• Service History: Providing services important to Kauai for at least two years
• Community Support: Receive broad community support
• Tax Status: Hold IRS 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status for at least two years
• Board: Have an active, responsible board of directors who serve without compensation
• Operations: Conduct work in a responsible and ethical manner
• Records: Maintain active programs and proper financial records; utilize funds efficiently
• Transparency: Make annual program and financial reports available to the public
• Funding Diversity: Seek funding from additional sources (per Principles of Admission)
• Campaign Support: Support Kauai United Way annual campaign among staff and community
• Collaboration: Assist with Kauai United Way annual campaign and special events throughout the year
• Cooperation: Work cooperatively with other Kauai United Way participating agencies
• Compliance: Meet other requirements deemed necessary for compliance with Kauai United Way policies

Participating Agency Obligations

Accepted agencies agree to:

• Provide periodic financial reports
• Allow Kauai United Way representatives to examine financial records as needed
• Devote fundraising efforts to entire community via Kauai United Way Annual Campaign during Shared Fundraising Period (September–October)
• Retain freedom to fundraise independently during other ten months of the year

How to Apply

1. Intent to Apply: Contact Lori Almarza at (808) 245-2043 or email info@kauaiunitedway.org to inform Kauai United Way of intent to apply
   • Note: Specific deadline varies by year; historically applicants have been required to notify by early February
2. Receive Instructions: Following initial inquiry, instructions will be issued on how to apply for funding
3. Complete Application: Submit extensive application describing programs and documenting all eligibility requirements
4. Application Review: A volunteer Allocations Committee will evaluate applications and conduct interviews with applicants
