Scholarships We partner with donors to administer scholarships for students across the state. Most NCCF scholarships open for applications on Dec. 16, 2025, and close on March 3, 2026. Undergraduates, graduates, medical and professional school students and adult re-entry students who are attending community colleges, four-year universities, career/technical schools, teaching credential programs and graduate, medical or professional schools in the United States are eligible for scholarships offered at NCCF. Each scholarship has specific eligibility requirements defined by the donor when the scholarship was established. Judy Moore Memorial Scholarship Endowment From her early years as a young student throughout her three-decade nursing career, Judy Moore’s life demonstrated her twin priorities of pursuing an education and caring for people. After graduating from Georgia’s Crawford Long Hospital School of Nursing, she moved to southwestern North Carolina where she continued her education to become the adult health program coordinator at the Macon County Public Health Center. She also oversaw tuberculosis control and the Macon County breast cancer/cervical cancer control program. After completing an adult physical training program, Judy provided adult health screening physicals at the health department and the community action program for disabled adults. She served on the Angel Medical Center home health board and other community boards. While working at the health department, she served as a weekend supervisor at Britthaven of Franklin long-term care facility and, in 1996, earned a degree as an obstetrics-gynecology nurse practitioner from Emory University. She died that year, at the age of 57. Cathy Poteet, Judy’s daughter and a nurse at Emory Healthcare in Atlanta, describes her mother as compassionate, selfless and hardworking. “We couldn’t just run to the store quickly,” says Poteet, because her mother’s former patients would often stop her to tell her how much they appreciated her care. But Judy’s career wasn’t her only focus. “My mom always put her family first,” says Poteet. “She worked two nursing jobs at a time to help provide for our family, not to mention all the home-cooked meals and day-to-day house chores on top of also helping with our family dairy farm.”
