Overview

The John E Langhorne Leadership Grant, established by the Community Foundation of Johnson County, honors Dr. Langhorne’s legacy by funding leadership development initiatives in the Iowa City Area. Grants of up to $5,000 support programs for all ages that enhance unique leadership skills. Eligible applicants include 501(c)3 nonprofits and municipalities serving Johnson County. The foundation, with nearly $67 million in assets, has a history of impactful giving, ensuring community needs are met through sustainable change.

From an initial gift of $400,000 made by Dick Schwab and Katherine Burford on December 1, 2000, the Community Foundation has grown to oversee nearly $67 million in charitable assets and has distributed more than $29 million in grants to nonprofit organizations.
The John E Langhorne Leadership Development Grants were created to celebrate and continue Dr. Langhorne’s legacy of cultivating leadership skills in the Iowa City Area. These grants will support charitable programs and projects which offer leadership development to individuals of all ages. Langhorne believed that every person’s leadership style is unique and ever-changing, and these grants will support a variety of programs which enhance leadership development for individuals.
Grants will be a maximum of $5,000.
