James Elwyn Memorial Scholarship Grant

The James Elwyn Memorial Scholarship, established in 2020, honors James Elwyn's legacy in the Wenatchee Valley swimming community. This scholarship supports graduating seniors from Chelan, Douglas, or Grant Counties pursuing further education. Applicants must demonstrate leadership, commitment to swimming, and a minimum of two years in high school swimming or USA swimming. It aims to recognize students who embody the spirit of teamwork and academic excellence inspired by James's dedication as a teacher and coach.

The James Elwyn Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2020 by his beloved wife, Kathy, family and friends in remembrance of James’s long-standing involvement in the Wenatchee Valley swimming community. James was a much-loved social studies teacher at Wenatchee High School, as well as the coach for both girls’ and boys’ swim teams. He had the privilege of coaching each of his three children; Kayli, Connor and Austin. James lead multiple boys and girls swim teams to top ten finishes at State and was named Coach of the Year by several organizations. James’s sense of humor, combined with his passion for teaching and coaching, earned him the love and loyalty of many. He had a positive impact on multitudes of swimmers, students and his family.
This scholarship supports graduating seniors from Chelan, Douglas or Grant Counties who are seeking further education in an accredited educational program in the US. The committee seeks to award a promising student who demonstrates leadership in the classroom and with the team.

Eligibility

Graduating senior from Chelan, Douglas or Grant CountyMust have participated in a minimum of 2 years in USA swimming while in high school and/or 2 years of high school swimmingDemonstrate involvement and commitment to swimmingShows leadership in the classroom and with the team
