Jacques Barzun Prize in Cultural History Grant

It is awarded annually to a single-author book published in English in the U.S. during 2023. Eligibility is limited to U.S. citizens or permanent residents, with a strict limit of three submissions per publisher. This prestigious award promotes scholarly excellence in cultural history.

The Jacques Barzun Prize in Cultural History honors Jacques Barzun (November 30, 1907–October 25, 2012), the distinguished historian who helped establish the modern discipline of cultural history. Jacques Barzun was elected a Member of the American Philosophical Society in 1984. The prize was established and funded by Roger Williams, a former student of Professor Barzun. The prize is awarded annually to the author whose book exhibits distinguished work in American or European cultural history.

Eligibility

Authors must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States.Books must be written in English, and published in the United States between January 1, 2023 and December 31, 2023.Books must be single-authored volumes, not collections of articles or edited texts The subject must be American or European cultural history.There is strict a three-book limit per publisher, whether books are submitted by the publisher or directly by an author.

Ineligibility

If more than three books are submitted by a publisher, all of them will be dropped from consideration.
