Summary

The IPS Captive Care Grants, offered by the International Primatological Society, provide funding up to $1500 for projects aimed at enhancing the welfare of captive primates in range countries. These grants support initiatives focused on evaluating welfare status, gathering vital information from local authorities, and improving living conditions for primates. The emphasis is on ethical practices and advancements in captive care to ensure the well-being of these animals, promoting conservation and scientific research in primatology.

Overview

The International Primatological Society was created to encourage all areas of non-human primatological scientific research, to facilitate cooperation among scientists of all nationalities engaged in primate research, and to promote the conservation of all primate species. The Society is organized exclusively for scientific, educational and charitable purposes. Captive Care Grants The Captive Care and Breeding Committee is charged with acquiring and disseminating information on ethical and welfare issues and on new technology dealing with captive care and breeding of primates. We are responsible for announcing, receiving, and judging grant and award programs that are aligned with this office. The Welfare and Captive Care Committee of IPS awards grants of up to $1500 for projects focusing on captive care issues that relate to: Evaluating or improving the welfare status of primates in captivity (e.g., sanctuaries, private, commercial) in range countries, obtaining information from local wildlife officials and field researchers on the welfare issues relating to captive primates living in range-country facilities, or improving conditions for the well-being of captive primates in range countries. Though the committee is interested in promoting the well-being of all captive primates regardless of where they live, these awards are specifically for those living in range countries.
