International Trans Fund Grants

The International Trans Fund (ITF) is a participatory grantmaking fund dedicated to supporting trans-led organizations globally. Its mission is to mobilize resources and address funding disparities affecting trans communities. The ITF prioritizes diverse groups, focuses on marginalized trans communities, and promotes intersectional work for social justice. Through various activities, including grants, the ITF empowers trans movements and advocates for their rights, ensuring sustainable growth and self-determination within the trans community.

The International Trans Fund (ITF) is a participatory grantmaking fund made up of trans activists and donors. The mission of the ITF is to mobilize sustainable resources for strong, trans-led movements and collective action, and to address and eliminate funding gaps impacting trans groups across the globe.
Build and sustain a mechanism to support trans-led groups of different sizes working on a range of issues at the international, regional, country, and local levels, with an emphasis on groups with access to fewer resources.Increase resources and enhance access to resources to support trans movements:Increasing financial resources dedicated to trans-led organizations and groups through grantmaking.Increasing access to non-financial resources for trans organizations, such as skills building, organizational strengthening, leadership development and activist support.Increasing access to other and new donors.Educate our peers in the philanthropic community on trans issues and influence other funders and strategic allies in trans-related commitments and strategies.
Priorities
The ITF priorities in this funding cycle are to:
Fund a diverse collection of groups, inclusive of various identities, strategies and issues, languages and regions.Reach trans communities facing greater levels of marginalization (e.g. racism, classism, ageism, ableism, misogyny and so on).
Support trans-led organizations who work intersectionally and whose work contributes to social and economic justice, trans movement building and the liberation of trans people.
Activities
The ITF supports a wide range of movement building activities, which can include awareness raising events, direct action, educational seminars, trainings, support groups, media projects, political advocacy, resource development, art and activism collaborations, community-based research, community spaces, skills sharing courses, leadership or personal development programs, educational campaigns, demonstrations, mobilizing communities and many other activities.
SEED Grant (1-year)
The SEED grant is a 1-year general support and/or project grant for trans-led organizations that have never been funded by the ITF, or that prefer to apply for this grant instead of the THRIVE Grant. Grants range from $10,000 to $25,000 USD/year.
THRIVE Grant (1-year)
The THRIVE grant is a 1-year general support grant ONLY for trans-led organizations that have been previously funded by the ITF and are in good standing. Grants range from $25,000 to $50,000 USD/year.

Eligibility

To be eligible for funding organizations must meet the following criteria:
Trans ledTrans people are in decision-making roles, including setting the organization’s strategic and financial priorities andTrans people make up 75% of the group’s staff, and Board, spokespeople, and/or decision-making body. If not, groups must demonstrate how trans people make budget, organizational and strategic decisions.
Operating budget under $100,000.
Group of people (i.e. Not an individual).
The main focus of work is to benefit the trans community.
Contributes to movement building, not just providing direct services.

Ineligibility

The ITF does not fund the following:

• Individuals.
• Organizations that are not led by trans people (even if they are working on trans issues).
• Organizations that do not do work specifically to benefit trans people or communities.
• Organizations, collectives, and networks with operating budgets above $150,000 USD.
• Organizations and projects that only provide direct services to individuals without contributing to
• trans movement building in some way.
