Program Name: Walk Better Innovation Challenge

Focus: TREO Pathway Scholarship funded through TREO AWARE

Purpose: Recognizes outstanding creativity and vision from high school students participating in the ASMBS Pathway Program.

Eligibility:

• High school students from underrepresented backgrounds
• Participants in the ASMBS Pathway Program
• Students with innovative ideas for improving TREO Foundation's The Walk event

Award Structure:

• First Place: $1,000 scholarship
• Second Place: $500 scholarship

Program Background:
The ASMBS Pathway Program is an initiative committed to inspiring and empowering students, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, with deeper understanding of:

• Obesity treatment
• Healthcare careers
• STEM opportunities

Award Use: Scholarships support students as they continue their educational journeys and represent TREO's commitment to cultivating the next generation of healthcare leaders.

2026 Expansion: TREO AWARE's goal is to fully fund the Pathway Program for students in San Antonio, TX through sponsorships. The program aims to:

• Provide support for students to attend the ASMBS program
• Provide additional scholarships like the TREO Pathway Scholarship
• Expand access to immersive, hands-on healthcare experiences
• Inspire curiosity and mentorship for young leaders in STEM and medicine

Application Process

Submission Details: Students participating in the ASMBS Pathway Program are invited to submit ideas for the "Walk Better Innovation Challenge."

Challenge Task: Share innovative ideas on how TREO Foundation's The Walk could improve participation and fundraising.

Review Process: Submissions are reviewed by a task force of TREO board members.

Selection Criteria: Outstanding creativity and vision in proposed improvements.
