Illinois Audubon Society Grant Program

The Illinois Ornithological Society Grant Program, established in 2004, aims to foster scientific research and education about birds in Illinois. Since its inception, it has awarded 140 grants totaling over $137,000 to students, professionals, and organizations engaged in bird-related projects. Eligible applicants must be IOS members and can propose projects that promote research, education, accessibility, and equity in the avian field, thereby enhancing public awareness of Illinois' birdlife.

IAS Grant Program
The Illinois Audubon Society Grants Program was initiated by the Illinois Ornithological Society in 2004 to promote scientific research of birds in Illinois. More than 150 grants totaling greater than $160,000 have been awarded. Illinois Audubon Society is committed to continuing this successful program.
In 2026, the program is open to student and professional applicants for the following grants. Applicants must choose one level when submitting their application:

• One grant of up to $10,000Two grants of up to $5,000Five grants of up to $2,500
• In addition to funding, awardees will receive a free, one-year membership to Illinois Audubon Society.

Eligibility

Grants are available to students, professionals, and organizations seeking funding for bird or birding related projects. Applicants must be an IAS member.Projects must relate to research on birds while they reside in the geographic boundary of Illinois to qualify. Grant recipients must agree to publish an article in an IAS publication.
