IARS Mentored Research Award (IMRA)

Status: Currently accepting applications

Award Amount: Up to $250,000 each, payable over two years

Number of Awards: Up to four research projects selected annually

Geographic Scope: International

Focus Areas:

  • Clinical research

  • Translational research

  • Basic science research

  • Any area of investigation with ultimate relevance to the broad practice of anesthesiology and its subspecialties

    • Eligibility:

  • Must be a member of IARS

  • Must have yet to establish substantial independent research funding, OR

  • Must be initiating a new area of research

  • Must have a senior mentor

  • Must have an appointment in a successful principal investigator's group

  • Candidates should present a clear research plan

    • What They Fund:

  • Support for development of promising investigators in anesthesiology and related sciences

  • Intended to help create future leaders and prepare applicants to apply for independent research funding

    • Review Criteria:

  • Scientific merit

  • Adequate preliminary data

  • Career potential of the investigator

  • Importance of the investigation to the specialty of anesthesiology

  • Awards granted at sole discretion of IARS

    • Review Process:

  • All IMRA applications reviewed by external advisory board appointed by IARS Board of Directors
