Overview
The Historic Preservation Education Grant supports the development and implementation of public humanities programs focused on historic preservation in Indiana communities. Through a generous partnership with Indiana Landmarks, Indiana Humanities expects to offer this grant even as other grants programs are paused.- Round 1: Open January 5, 2026; Closes February 28, 2026
- Round 2: Open (date not specified); Closes September 30, 2026

- NOT eligible: Individuals, nonregistered entities, for-profit entities
- No fiscal sponsorship allowed
Eligibility
- Public humanities programs related to historic preservation such as exhibitions, author talks, reading-and-discussion programs, walking tours
- Programs focused on history and related humanities disciplines
- Art history, theory and criticism (but not creation, display or performance of art)
- Social sciences with humanistic content/methods
- NOT: General operating support, art creation/performance, humanitarian services
What They Fund
- Programs must be open to the public (may target specific audiences but should generally be equally accessible)
- Programs in schools and prisons may serve select audiences
- Admission may be charged but should be nominal (no more than movie ticket cost)

1. Confirm Eligibility

- Confirm your organization type is eligible
- Confirm your program has a historic preservation focus
2. Review Guidelines
- Review the grant call for proposals at indianahumanities.org/grants/
- Confirm your humanities program aligns with funding priorities
- Review scoring rubric to understand evaluation criteria
- Note the specific round deadline that applies to your project
3. Prepare Application Materials
- Project title and description
- Project director name and contact information
- Organization Employee Identification Number (EIN)
- Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) - required if awarded; register at sam.gov if you don't have one
- Project budget (template provided with grant listing)
- Resumes of team members
- Letters of support
- Answer narrative questions (specific questions listed in the grant's call for proposals)
- Accessibility information
4. Submit Online Application
- Complete application through Indiana Humanities' online portal
- Link to portal included with grant listing
- Allow substantial time for completion
- Submit before deadline (February 28, 2026 for Round 1; September 30, 2026 for Round 2)
5. Follow-up
- If awarded, provide UEI before funds can be dispersed
- Register for UEI early if you don't have one (can take several months)
