Hewitt Foundation Grant

The Hewitt Foundation Grant supports Canadian registered charities focused on health, education, and community development. It emphasizes collaboration to address mental illness, trauma, and research for innovative solutions. The foundation also aids educational institutions and programs that foster inclusivity and support for youth. Additionally, it champions indigenous-led initiatives and environmental conservation, ensuring a better quality of life for all Canadians. Grants are exclusively for registered charities as defined by Canadian law.

Our Core Funding Areas
The Hewitt Foundation aims to support Canadian registered charities with a proven track record, and partner with other philanthropic foundations in order to augment the impact in improving the lives of all Canadians through collaboration and innovation.
Health
Despite the growing openness to talk about mental illness, prejudice and fear still prevent many from seeking help. The Hewitt Foundation aims to support organizations that continue to work with adolescents and adults living with mental illnesses and collaborate with others to innovate and bring about social change and acceptance.
Trauma- Despite significant improvements to the healthcare system, trauma remains the number one cause of death among Canadians under 44 years of age. The Hewitt Foundation aims to support centres of excellence to continue to help save lives and send Canadians home healthy.
Research - Diseases, viruses and illnesses are continually evolving and the search for cures, treatments and prevention is never ending. The Hewitt Foundation aims to support centres of excellence in research with the goal of helping fund expert researchers to find solutions, therapies, medications, and eventually cures and/or vaccines.
Education
Schools - The Hewitt Foundation aims to support schools that offer specialized and innovative programming, provide support and resources to all students, offer scholarships, are inclusive, and encourage all students to graduate.Colleges & Universities - The Hewitt Foundation aims to support universities, college and cegeps that provide resources to all students, offer scholarships, innovate in the ever-changing world, and prepare our future leaders.Specialized programs - The Hewitt Foundation aims to support organizations that provide and encourage Canadian students of all ages to improve their current level of education and improve their quality of life.Youth 12-35- The Hewitt Foundation aims to support organizations that provide services to youth aged 12 to 35 that mentor and guide them to reach their full potential and become a responsible and contributing Canadian citizen.
Community
Indigenous Peoples - The Hewitt Foundation aims to support Indigenous-led organizations that encourage Indigenous individuals to pursue their education, seek medical and therapeutic assistance, create innovate solutions, with the objective of improving their quality of life.Fundamental Needs - The Hewitt Foundation aims to support organizations that provide emergency services, financial aide and educational programs in order to break the cycle of poverty and help Canadians have a better quality of life and prosperity.Environment - The Hewitt Foundation aims to support organizations that help to conserve and preserve our species, both floral and fauna, protect our parks and waters, promote recycling and using reusable energy, and ensure our future generations can enjoy all the wonders that planet Earth has to offer.Veterans- The Hewitt Foundation aims to support organizations that help Canadian Veterans and their families, transition to civilian life and find a new purpose, combat depression, post-traumatic stress or substance abuse, and that educate the public on these men and women who have served our country and represented our Canadian values around the world.

Eligibility

The Hewitt Foundation is required to make donations strictly to registered Canadian charities, as defined by the Canada Revenue Agency and the Income Tax Act.

Ineligibility

We have a policy of not funding : Non-qualified donees (individuals or not-for-profit organizations, i.e. a registered charity number is required)Political movements or partisan political activitiesFilm, video or documentary projectsReligious causes, projects or activitiesIndividual research projects or consortium of organizationsEvents such as galas, walks/runs, golf tournaments, festivals, sport teams, etcEmergency relief for operating deficitsRetroactive funding for activities or projects that have already taken place
