Summary
The Heinz Endowments, established in 2007, is a prominent philanthropic organization in the U.S. with a focus on southwestern Pennsylvania. It provides approximately $90 million in annual grants across various sectors, including arts, civic participation, and environmental health. Organizations classified as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) are encouraged to apply, while for-profit entities and individuals are ineligible. The Endowments seeks transformative ideas that benefit local communities.Overview
NOTE: Submit a short LOI to enter the process for funding consideration, which should take about 10 minutes to complete. We aim to respond to all inquiries within 45 days. LOIs are accepted on a rolling basis. If approved, the organization will be invited to complete a general application that builds from the LOI. If an organization is working directly with Endowments staff and has been instructed to complete a general application, the LOI may be skipped. The Heinz Endowments For nearly 140 years, the Heinz family has been a key business and philanthropic leader in the Pittsburgh region and around the world. The Heinz Endowments grew from the success of one of America’s most accomplished entrepreneurs, Henry John “H.J.” Heinz, as a reflection of the values shared by generations of his family, their devotion to civic causes, and their willingness to embrace transformative ideas and invest in seeing them through. The Heinz Endowments was established in 2007 with the consolidation of two Heinz family foundations: the Howard Heinz Endowment and the Vira I. Heinz Endowment. Today, The Heinz Endowments is among the largest philanthropic organizations in the United States, distributing approximately $90 million in grants annually. Grants The Heinz Endowments awards grants in these areas: Arts & Culture; Civic Participation; Climate, Environment & Health; Community & Economic Development; Food Systems; Veterans; and Workforce. We concentrate our efforts and resources in southwestern Pennsylvania (SWPA). Given our primarily regional focus, the foundation is generally unable to consider applications for funding outside the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, unless the proposal is expressly for the benefit of residents of the SWPA region or state.Eligibility
