Overview: A 3-year longitudinal national program that provides knowledge and skills in U.S. health policy and clinician advocacy. The program is designed for pediatric clinicians who wish to develop academic careers in health policy and advocacy.

Description: The inaugural program was launched with the first cohort selected in December 2020.

Curriculum and Components

• Didactic lectures by experts in pediatric advocacy
• Interactive small group activities on health policy and advocacy topics
• Scholarly project completion related to health policy and advocacy
• Local mentorship and national advisor guidance
• Advocacy experiential component:
- Year 1: Institutional government affairs work - Year 2: State-level governmental advocacy - Year 3: American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Legislative Conference attendance

• Candidates from the United States and Canada

Goals

• Prepare clinician advocates to further develop academic careers in health policy and advocacy
• Disseminate knowledge and skills through mentoring and developing other pediatric clinicians
• Address health inequities through scholarly work and advocacy
