Health Equity Academy in System Transformation

Overview:
A 10-month unpaid fellowship designed to equip health care providers with skills, knowledge, and networks to become advocates for equitable system transformation. The program is primarily virtual with a funded 3-day in-person conference in Washington DC.

Program Details

Duration: 10 months (July 2024 - May 2025 based on most recent cohort)

Format:

  • Primarily virtual

  • Monthly virtual meetings (third Thursday of every month, 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM ET)

  • Funded in-person conference attendance (January 21-24, 2025)
  • What the Fellowship Offers:

  • Skill development in health equity advocacy, policy analysis, and community engagement

  • Advocacy agenda development leveraging personal and provider expertise

  • Tools to amplify patient voices, especially from historically marginalized communities

  • Understanding of how health care intersects with social drivers of health

  • Networking opportunities with fellow providers and advocacy organizations

  • Technical assistance from experienced policy advocates

  • Stipend to attend Families USA's Health Action Conference
  • Eligibility Requirements

    Professional Background: Health care providers including:

  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurses

  • Community Health Workers

  • Dentists

  • Dental Hygienists

  • Doulas

  • Midwives

  • Nurses

  • Nursing Assistants

  • Occupational Therapists

  • Optometrists

  • Orthodontists

  • Pharmacists

  • Physical Therapists

  • Physicians

  • Physician Assistants

  • Social Workers

  • Speech Language Pathologists

  • Therapists

  • Students who have completed at least one year of schooling/training
  • Geographic/Practice Requirements:

  • Practicing in medically underserved areas (Health Professional Shortage Area designation)

  • Preference for primary care providers or those serving as frequent touchpoint for patients
  • Commitment Requirements:

  • Committed to anti-racism and uplifting lived experiences of historically marginalized communities

  • Can commit to participating in monthly virtual meetings

  • Can attend Families USA's Health Action Conference (January 21-24, 2025)

  • Interested in advancing skills in health equity policy advocacy in states and communities
