Overview

Head Start/Early Head Start Program

Geographic Scope: North Carolina (Greater Greensboro area)

Program Type: Comprehensive child development program at no cost to qualified families

Age Requirements

  • Early Head Start: 6 weeks – 2 years of age (on or after August 31)
  • Head Start: Priority given to children 4 years of age on or before August 31st. Limited slots available for children who will be 3 years of age on or before August 31

Income Requirements

Income limit based on family size and household annual income in accordance with 2024 poverty guidelines

Special Needs Services

GenerationEd recognizes individual child strengths, limitations, and needs:

  • Percentage of slots reserved for children with special needs

  • Developmentally appropriate classrooms for children with diagnosed disabilities

  • Disabilities served include: Autism, Developmental delay, Speech or language impairment, Hearing impairment, Visual impairment, Orthopedic impairment

  • Individualized services according to child's Individual Education Plan (IEP)

  • Screenings and assessments conducted to identify children with special needs

    1. Call (336) 378-7700 and ask to speak with an Enrollment Specialist
    2. Complete online application
    3. Staff will contact you to retrieve required documentation

    Required Documentation for Verification

    • Verification of total family income for the past 12 months
    • Child's birth certificate
    • Child's current physical exam (with current immunizations)
    • Dental exam
    • Medicaid card (if applicable)

    Child Acceptance

    1. After speaking with Head Start Staff and submitting all required documentation, staff will notify you of acceptance
    2. Upon acceptance, you have the option to accept or decline placement

    Important Note: The same application is used for Head Start and Early Head Start, but these are separately funded programs. You must reapply when your child moves from Early Head Start to Head Start.
