HBF Fellows Program

Geographic Scope: Houston, Texas area

Focus Areas: Supporting access to justice and high-impact legal programming in Houston community

Purpose: Membership program for lawyers committed to supporting access to justice and promoting legal services in the Houston community

Eligibility:

Must be Houston Bar Association (HBA) member

Selective program - less than 1% of HBA members invited annually

Primary Beneficiary: Houston Volunteer Lawyers (HVL) receives approximately 92% of HBF funding

Secondary Beneficiaries: High-impact HBA partner organizations including:

Pursuit Center

Houston Food Bank

Habitat for Humanity

Program Context: Founded in 1982, the Houston Bar Foundation is the charitable arm of the Houston Bar Association and has supported programs providing legal representation to the indigent, promoting community understanding of the legal system, and fostering the administration of justice.

Membership Tiers:

Fellow

• Pledge: $2,500 one-time or annual payments over 10 years
• Cost: $250/year or approximately $22/month
• Status: Individual paying on a 1st 10-year pledge

Life Fellow

• Status: Individual who has completed the 1st 10-year pledge

Sustaining Life Fellow

• Pledge: Additional $2,500 one-time or annual payments over 10 years
• Status: Individual paying on or has completed a 2nd 10-year pledge

Champion Fellow

• Pledge: Additional $2,500 one-time or annual payments over 10 years
• Status: Individual paying on or has completed a 3rd 10-year pledge

Recognition:

Listed on HBA website as HBF Fellow

Recognized at HBA and HBF events

Digital badge for use on website bios, email signatures, and printed communications

Additional Giving: Those not ready to become Fellows can make tax-deductible contributions
