We are a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, supported by contributions from ASCAP members and music fans throughout the United States. We operate and support vital programs that impact millions of music creators and music lovers of all ages every year.
HBCU Scholarship
About
The ASCAP Foundation HBCU Scholarship provides financial assistance for students who are enrolled at a historically black college or university (“HBCU”) and have an interest in pursuing a career in music, including music technology, music business and music performance. The scholarships are supported in part by the Frank & Lydia Bergen Foundation.
Criteria
Applicants will be judged on the following criteria:
* Relevance of essay response to the topic provided;
* Unique and creative writing style; and
* Organization and clarity of goal
Prize
Two students will be selected as the Scholarship Recipients and will receive a monetary prize of $2,500.00 U.S.D each to be used towards school tuition. The Scholarship Recipient will be invited to attend a private “Meet the Graduates” conversation.
Meet the Graduates is an initiative hosted by the ASCAP Aspire Program that provides an opportunity for students to interact with music executives who have graduated from HBCUs. During the event, these HBCU alums will detail their journey to success from student to executive and share their favorite HBCU memories and learnings that students can take with them as they grow in their entertainment careers.

* To be eligible for consideration for the Scholarship, an entrant must be, as of the expiration of the Application Period, either:
* an ASCAP writer member in good standing or
* a writer who is not affiliated with any performing rights or collective rights management organization.
* For a writer member of ASCAP to be in good standing, such writer must have been elected to membership in ASCAP, be eligible to vote at General Meetings of ASCAP, and have not either:
* resigned from membership or
* delivered an effective notice of intent to resign from membership.
* Applicants must be an undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in an HBCU with an interest in pursuing a career in music.
* Applicants must be in good academic standing with a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA.
* Applicants must also be, at the time of entry:
* a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, enrolled student with a valid and current U.S. student visa or holding a valid U.S. visa and
* at least 18 years of age or the age of majority in the state or country of residence, whichever is older.
Ineligibility
* Void where prohibited by law and outside the fifty (50) United States and District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
* Judges of the Award or anyone involved in the Judging Procedure as set forth in the Award Requirements are not permitted to enter or win the Award.
* Employees, officers and directors of the Foundation, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, and any affiliated company, organization or entity, and their immediate family members, are not eligible to participate in the Award.
* For purpose of the foregoing, “immediate family” means parents, spouses, children, siblings or any members of the same households of such employees, officers and directors.
