Guest Curator Program 2026-2027

Overview: MOPOP's Guest Curator Program highlights emerging curators and voices, providing hands-on experience in exhibition creation, development, and installation. Guest curators work with MOPOP's Curatorial, Collections, and Exhibits teams while sharing fresh perspectives on the museum's permanent and oral history collections.

Geographic Scope: Primarily Seattle-based preferred; remote participation possible with ability to travel for installation phase

  • Location: 262 square feet

  • Duration: 8 months (July 2026 - March 2027)
  • Compensation:

  • Amount: $5,000

  • Rationale: Reflects MOPOP's commitment to supporting emerging professionals and acknowledges importance of unique voices and content
  • Qualifications:

  • Background in art history, cultural studies, museum studies, or related field

  • Demonstrated interest and knowledge in pop culture (music, film, television, gaming, fashion, literature)

  • Strong research, writing, and critical thinking skills

  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities

  • Passion for engaging with diverse audiences

  • Experience Level: Don't need extensive museum experience; potential, creativity, and point of view valued more than credentials
  • Core Responsibilities:

  • Develop, research, and curate exhibition including artifact selection

  • Create exhibition text and interpretation

  • Engage with museum visitors about the exhibition

  • Work with MOPOP Marketing team on blog posts and social media

  • Participate in public programs, lectures, press, and panel discussions as opportunities arise
