Graduate Schools of Banking and Trust Scholarships

Program Overview:
The CSBS Education Foundation conducts an annual competition to award scholarships to state banking department personnel to attend graduate schools of banking or graduate trust schools of their choice. This prestigious program has been in place since 1972.

Award Details:

  • Amount: Up to $3,000 per year covering tuition, registration fees, lodging, board, text materials, transportation, and graduation expenses for the top three applicants

  • Term: Up to three consecutive years depending on school curriculum

  • Fourth Place Award: The Graduate School of Banking at Colorado provides an additional $1,500 scholarship per year of attendance to the fourth place winner

  • Requirement: Recipients must attend each session, satisfactorily complete assigned problems, and remain employed by a state banking department
  • Eligibility:
    All nominees must be state banking department personnel who meet the following qualifications:

  • Nominated by state bank supervisors

  • Demonstrate excellence in examination work

  • Up to three nominations per state per year
  • Program Goals:

  • Encourage and assist qualified bank and trust examiners to prepare for expanded duties and responsibilities

  • Broaden examiner understanding of banking or trust operations

  • Encourage excellence in bank and trust examination

  • Provide recognition of outstanding examiners

  • Raise proficiency levels of state banking departments

    How to Apply

    Application Process

    1. Nomination Period: The 2026 nomination period is now open
    2. Deadline: Nomination forms due December 12, 2025 (note: this deadline has passed as of today's date 2026-04-03; next annual cycle deadline would be December 12, 2026)
    3. Who Nominates: State bank supervisors nominate candidates using official nomination forms
    4. Submission: Email completed nomination forms to Katie Hoyle, Director, Workforce Development
    5. Review Process: Completed forms are consolidated and referred to a panel of judges for consideration and final selection
    6. Notification: Upon completion of review, the CSBSEF Chairman notifies nominees of results
    7. Registration: Selected nominees are asked to register with the graduate banking or trust program of their choice
