Governor's Scholarship for Foster Youth

Focus Areas: Supporting young people from foster care to continue their education and earn a college degree

Eligibility: Foster youth pursuing postsecondary education

• Subsequent Washington state governors have continued this tradition of support
• Approximately 30 new scholars selected each year
• Funding source: Proceeds from the Governors' Cup, an annual golf tournament
• Part of the Washington Passport Network initiative

• Make It Happen! on-campus summer program for college preparation
• Passport Navigator mentorship (student mentors for foster youth support)

Application Process

Application materials reviewed through community volunteer readers who score scholarship applications. Selection process includes:

• Application Review: Community volunteers, regional board members, higher ed partners and CSF staff read and score applications
• Notification: Applicants notified of selection status in May
• Application Components: Essay/personal statement and letters of recommendation required
