Note: Micro grant applications will be considered on a rolling basis throughout the year. Contact us first before you apply to make sure that we still have funds available. New Haven faces a number of environmental challenges that make its air, water and soil contaminated and unhealthy for residents. The City has more than its fair share of polluting facilities and high diesel traffic, including: multiple power plants, a confluence of major interstate highways, a regional train depot, a deep-water port facility and associated pipelines that pump oil throughout New England, as well as a sewage treatment plant that imports sludge from around the state to incinerate in New Haven. Our mission is to promote environmental quality, public health and equity in our community by providing grants and other incentives to support initiatives that contribute to a more environmentally sustainable future and reduce air, water and land pollution. Priorities Our areas of interest include, but are not limited to: Air and water clean up initiatives Applied research addressing community needs Climate change resiliency and mitigation Community planning that creates healthier neighborhoods Environmental or sustainability educational programs Increased public access to natural resources Initiatives to integrate sustainability into daily life Innovative technology to decrease pollution and improve sustainability Mission support and capacity building (small grants only)Organizing, advocacy for environmental Justice We encourage collaborative projects between environmental organizations and outreach organizations. Microgrants Micro Grants support single events such as conferences, neighborhood fairs, school environmental oriented events such as ecofairs, financial support for equipment for citizen science projects, initiatives from grassroots groups that have a new idea that they would like to try. Some examples of our awards supported fishing lessons for families (Fixing Fathers, Inc), an Ecofair at Metropolitan Business Academy, New Haven CT, Booker T Washington Academy science fair, equipment to sample fish in New Haven Harbor, videographer costs for taping a community outreach event for residential stormwater and combined sewer overflow education in the West River neighborhood, and brochures for community environmental grassroots groups. The request needs to be related to our areas of interest.Eligibility
