Overview

Give Where You Live NKY

Overview: A giving circle format that brings together community members for quick, collaborative grantmaking. Members meet quarterly for "speed philanthropy" events where nonprofits are selected and funded in less than an hour.

Geographic Scope: Northern Kentucky (Boone, Campbell, and Kenton counties)

Partner Organizations:

  • Horizon Community Funds of Northern Kentucky

  • Mueller Financial, Inc.
  • Award Structure per Meeting:

  • Each member contributes: $100

  • Winning nonprofit receives: $3,000-$6,000 (depending on participation)

  • In case of ties: multiple nonprofits receive awards
  • Meeting Schedule (2019-2020):

  • Remaining 2019: Thursday, December 12, 6:00-7:00 p.m. at BLDG in Covington

  • 2020 meetings: March 19, June 18, September 17, December 10 (all Thursdays)
  • Eligibility:

  • 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations

  • Must serve Boone, Campbell, or Kenton counties in Northern Kentucky
  • Previous Winners:

  • Dolly Parton Imagination Library (through Notre Dame Urban Education Council)

  • Lucky Tales Rescue

  • The Scheben Care Center in Florence

  • The Gateway Foundation
  • Key Features:

  • Fast-paced process (under 1 hour)

  • Member-nominated organizations

  • Democratic voting process

  • No formal application required from nonprofits

  • Members contribute $100 per meeting

    How to Apply

    Application/Participation Process

    How the Meeting Works:
    1. Meeting convened at community location
    2. Members nominate nonprofits of their choice
    3. Three nonprofit names randomly selected
    4. Group discusses the three organizations (brief presentations)
    5. Members vote on their favorite organization
    6. Each participating member contributes $100
    7. Winning nonprofit(s) receives grant
    8. Entire process takes less than 1 hour
