Community Foundation of Abilene The Community Foundation of Abilene was established in 1985 by a group of individuals who believed that the work that can be accomplished by the whole could be greater than the sum of its parts. The idea that a community of donors can accomplish more collectively than individually. The objective of the Foundation has shifted over the years to continue to meet our vision to see a thriving Abilene, endowed forever. From seeking out partnerships with professional advisors to developing a foundation of philanthropy-minded clients to establishing key relationships to further community initiatives, the Community Foundation of Abilene has rooted itself as a premier organization to empower people to make a lasting charitable impact on our community. The Community Foundation of Abilene is home to more than 150 scholarship funds established by individuals, organizations, and companies to help students from our community and the surrounding area pursue their college education dreams. Gilbert Cook Memorial Scholarship This memorial scholarship fund was established to honor Gilbert Cook (1960-2001). Gilbert Cook was born November 7, 1960. He was a devoted husband, loving father and friend to all he came in contact with. His love for kids and others who needed a helping hand led him to be involved in several charitable organizations and fund-raising events, giving his time and his many resources in order to help others. Gilbert was a true leader in the eyes of both young and old. His memory will live on through the Gilbert Cook Memorial Scholarship.
