Georgia Bar Foundation Grants

The Georgia Bar Foundation provides grants to enhance access to justice in Georgia. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, it supports organizations that assist low-income individuals, children in the justice system, and initiatives promoting legal education and understanding of democracy. Funding primarily comes from the IOLTA program, ensuring that qualified organizations can receive necessary resources to further their missions and impact the community positively.

About the GBF
The Georgia Bar Foundation is the charitable arm of the Supreme Court of Georgia. It is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused primarily on promoting access to justice in Georgia.
One of the ways the GBF promotes access to justice is by awarding grants to qualified organizations. The primary source of funding for GBF grants is the Interest On Lawyer Trust Accounts (IOLTA) program. The GBF may also receive and distribute funds from other sources, including contributions or other fees assigned to be received by the Foundation.
Grant Award Criteria
The GBF Board of Trustees reviews grant applications from qualified organizations and may award funds to be used for one or more of the following purposes:
Supporting legal services for Georgians who lack access or are experiencing povertyAiding children involved in the justice systemImproving the administration of justicePromoting professionalism in the practice of lawProviding legal education to Georgia’s childrenProviding educational programs for adults in order to advance understanding of democracy and our government

Eligibility

Who can apply for a GBF Grant?Organizations that qualify as exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRCGovernmental, charitable, and educational organizations exempt from income tax and whose purposes are consistent with those of the Foundation
