Overview

The Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation was established in 1987 in Salisbury, Conn., with an anonymous donation of $100,000. Originally an affiliate of the New York Community Trust, the foundation became an independent public charity in 1990. Today, BTCF manages more than 550 funds that put over $14 million into action each year. Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation serves Berkshire, Columbia, northeast Dutchess and northwest Litchfield counties. This unique area where New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts meet contains 2,200 square miles of natural beauty and small-town charm that is home to nearly 230,000 people. Buterbaugh Scholarship Fund George and Lucille Buterbaugh came to the Town of Salisbury in 1965 and lived there for over thirty years until their deaths in 2002 and 2004, respectively. George served in World War II as a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy. He then worked as an architect in New York City before retiring to Salisbury. Lucille was a cosmetologist and proprietor of her own salon business on Madison Avenue. Having a deep love of their adopted home town, they were involved in many community organizations including the Holley House Museum, Salisbury Congregational Church and the Salisbury Garden Club. The George and Lucille Buterbaugh Fund was established by the Buterbaughs in 1993 to provide scholarship support to residents of the Town of Salisbury with financial need.
