Award Details:

• Permanent endowment established from estate gift
• 2013: $14,500 awarded to 6 recipients
• 2014: $20,000 available for awards
• 38% budget increase from 2013 to 2014

Fund Origin: Established with a gift from the estate of George and Gwendolyn Goodin, longtime residents of Yountville. George Goodin had a U.S. Army career, retiring in 1964 as Chief Warrant Officer IV. The Goodins created this permanent scholarship fund for veterans in their community.

Administration:

• Volunteer committee comprised of local veterans and professionals who work with veterans
• Committee determines guidelines and makes award decisions
• Annual basis distribution

Context:

• Approximately 11,000 veterans in Napa County
• 1,500 have service-connected disabilities
• Approximately 218 veterans enrolled at Napa Valley College
• Recipients can use funds for educational supplies and expenses
