Summary
The Genomics in Context Awards support transdisciplinary teams to advance research at the intersection of genomics, humanities, social sciences, and bioethics. These projects aim to create new research agendas and explore innovative practices, addressing the ethical challenges and limitations of past approaches. By centering diverse perspectives early in the research process, the initiative seeks to maximize the discovery potential of collaborative efforts, ensuring a more equitable and responsible approach to genomic research.Overview
These awards will support transdisciplinary teams to catalyse research discoveries at the intersection of genomics, humanities, social sciences and bioethics. Funded projects will be given the time and resources to create new research agendas and explore innovative ways of working. There is a long history of exploring the social, legal and ethical contexts of genomics. This has made significant inroads into fostering more ethical and equitable practice. However, this has often been too limited and too late. Wider humanities and social science fields are underrepresented; communities or other social partners are often not centred; and these perspectives are often only included after key research decisions have already been made. This not only poses ethical challenges. It means that the discovery research potential of wider and earlier collaboration remains unrealised.Eligibility
