General Richard T. Knowles Legislative Scholarship

Overview: NMMI scholarship for New Mexico resident high school students providing funding to cover the remaining balance needed to attend NMMI for the academic year.

Geographic Scope: New Mexico residents only

Eligibility:

  • New Mexico resident high school students

  • Minimum 2.0 GPA for new cadets

  • Old cadets must maintain 2.0 GPA and at least "C" in deportment (corps grade)

  • Must apply for the scholarship

  • Must meet all NMMI admissions standards
  • Award Details:

  • Benefit is adjusted for the needs of each NM resident HS student (not a flat fee)

  • All other scholarships are applied first

  • Remaining balance is covered by the Knowles Scholarship

  • For cadets already receiving the scholarship, amounts are adjusted to cover any balance owed by the family
  • Program Goals:

  • Remove financial burden for families unable to otherwise afford NMMI

  • Increase percentage and number of NM HS resident corps members

  • Complements the New Mexico Opportunity Scholarship for college-aged students and cadets
  • Requirements:

  • Proof of residency maintained by NMMI registrar's office

  • Proof of residency must meet State's residency requirements for higher educational institutions

    1. Complete NMMI Admissions Application
    - Must apply to NMMI as a cadet
    - Must meet all NMMI admissions standards

    2. Apply for the Knowles Scholarship
    - All cadets who wish to be part of the Knowles Scholarship program must apply
    - Application required (separate from general admissions)

    3. Provide Proof of Residency
    - Submit to NMMI registrar's office
    - Must meet State's residency requirements for higher educational institutions

    4. Submit Other Scholarship Applications
    - All other scholarships must be applied for first
    - Knowles Scholarship covers remaining balance after other awards
